Still With Me - A Song of Loss, Truth and Hope
This song was written for Jack and all those who never received the care they deserved. Let it be the heartbeat of our movement for justice and healing.

Help The Cause

Welcome to
Koru S.O.S. Trust

We are born from the pain of the cracks in our system — and from the strength to rise anyway. We are Ngā Kāpiti Nui: the iwi of the forgotten, the overlooked, the unheard.

Our founder, Lisa Hawkeswood,

Our founder, Lisa Hawkeswood, carries the lived experience of intergenerational trauma — as a woman of both Māori and Pākehā heritage, who has witnessed and survived the injustice of a system that fails too many. Her son Jack lost his life in those cracks. But his legacy lives on in this Trust, in this song, and in this fight for a just and compassionate Aotearoa.

Tuakau, our home

Tuakau, our home, sits in a belt of nothingness — forgotten by Counties Manukau Health, left dangling between regions and services. But from this place of neglect, we are building something bold: a new iwi for all who fall through the cracks.

Whakarongo Mai
National Whānau Inclusion Policy for Post-Discharge Suicide Reviews
Purpose:

To ensure every suicide that occurs within 30 days of discharge from an inpatient or crisis mental health facility triggers a mandatory review that includes the voice and evidence of the next of kin.

Background

* Suicide risk is highest in the first 7–30 days after discharge from mental health units.
* Many families are excluded from clinical and coronial reviews.
* This exclusion leads to repeated system failures and loss of critical insight.
* Current processes are inconsistent, and whānau voices are often erased or ignored.

Proposed Policy Measures

Mandate that all suspected suicides within 30 days of discharge are treated as critical incidents. Require involvement of the next of kin in any review process. Ensure DHBs and Te Whatu Ora allow whānau to submit formal impact statements, documents, and insights. Allow families access to all relevant medical notes and discharge documentation. Establish a national database to track and audit post-discharge suicides and identify system patterns.

Join Us

We welcome all who feel disconnected, underserved, unheard: solo parents, farmers, migrants, half-breeds, the grieving, the misjudged. If you've felt unseen — you belong here.

Together, we rise. Together, we speak the truth. Together, we save lives.
